Day 1. Neil and Johnny, two dirty and dangerous men, walk into a bedroom carrying a child's backpack. Neil's excited to find out what treasure lies within. Johnny says its a kids' backpack, so what could be in it. They reminisce about vandalizing a famous statue in Savannah, Georgia. Neil unzips the backpack and finds it filled with cheap Dr. Seuss books. Neil continually insults Johnny, who allows it. Johnny has a pink scorpion tattoo.

Day 4. Ana pulls a battered pick-up truck into a lonely gas station on a forest road. Much of the building has been smashed and the gas pumps have been burned down. The trees nearest the station are burnt and broken.

Ana parks and tells her son, Barry, that she's going inside. She pulls out a digital hourglass and sets it on the dash. Then she pulls out a metal rod and gets out of the truck after kissing him on the forehead. Ana flicks the metal rod and a razor-sharp blade pops out. It's covered in dried blood. Barry hides on the floorboard.

Ana goes up to the building, which has one remaining room. Ana kicks the door open and goes inside where three men with pink scorpion tattoos sit: Johnny, Neil and Hugo. Johnny remembers Ana and the men begin talking to her menacingly. She tells them they know why she's here. Hugo gets tired of playing and grabs a crowbar. Johnny says she shouldn't have come back, but she isn't intimidated. They threaten to kill her, but she says their friends said the same thing right before she killed them. She says she wants the package. They say the don't know what she's talking about. Neil alludes to Barry and Ana tells them it's bad when he's not around. She kicks the door shut and proceeds to kill all three men.

In the truck, Barry flips the hourglass over and says "one more time." He stares after his mom. The door to the gas station swings open and Ana walks out with the backpack. She flicks the blood from her blade on the building. Through the doorway, we see the bodies of the three men.

Ana opens the door and gets in the truck. She hands him the backpack. He gets excited that it's all Dr. Seuss books. He looks for "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins," but doesn't find it. Ana tells him they can read the books when they get to the next camp. She rubs a gold locket around her neck, but ignores a silver one. It'll be dusk soon and Barry says he hates dusk. Ana replies that everyone hates dusk.

Driving along the road, someone has spray-painted "Kaos City 88" on a mileage sign. Off in the distance is a series of giant alien robots. They can be seen every few miles in every direction.

Ana pulls the truck off the road near a smashed-up house. She asks Barry why they stopped. He says it's because there was a sign. She asks him where the sign is. He looks around and spots it on a broken telephone pole, a cherry-red, spray-painted circle. She lets him lead the way and he looks around the pole until he finds a small bag. She pulls out a piece of paper that has a series of images in it. She writes down what they are in her notebook and puts the paper back.

Back in the truck, Ana decodes her new notes. Barry asks her if it's far, she says not at all. He's a bit worried as the sun gets low in the sky. They drive towards a safe house. Barry asks if they're really safe and she says they're only "safer." Ana tells him he's always safe with her or when he's hidden. A shield device sits in the back seat. He asks if they shield works at dusk, she says it does. He says he hates the shield, it's dark and quiet inside. She says it's for his own good and that other kids would be happy to have one. He asks if there are any other kids left and she promises that there are. She rubs a pendant around her neck as she tells him that there will be kids at the safe house. This one is different than ones they've been to recently. Barry accepts her explanation and starts playing with a Rubik's Cube.

The truck pulls off the road and into the parking lot for Devil's Notch National Park. And drives the truck into the cave, which is filled with abandoned vehicles. She parks and they get out. Barry asks her how they know the giant robot in the distance is asleep. Ana points to the eye slit, which is dark. She says that will glow red when the robot is awake. She's seen it personally.

They move deeper into the cave and several mechanical spiders start to follow them. She hears them and tells Barry to get under his shield, it's a code red. He listens and activates a shield that protects him with a small energy shield. He can't see what's happening outside the shield, so he plays with his Rubik's Cube. Several more spiders move into the cave from outdoors.

Ana pulls a pistol from her pocket and checks the clip. Eight bullets left. The spiders close in on her. The spiders scan the room. Ana shoots one of the spiders. Then another. She traps one inside a truck. She opens the door and bashes it with her gun until it stops moving. Outside, the giant robot blasts an alarm and it's eye starts glowing red. It starts to move.

Ana looks around for any other spiders. Not seeing any, she opens up the shield and grabs Barry. They run from the overwhelming sound of the robot's alarm.

Ana and Barry make their way through a small, dark cave that gets tighter and tighter as they move back. Barry is scared, but she reassures him they wouldn't be here if they couldn't fit. They see a sliver of light at the end of the cave start to grow brighter.

The passage opens up to a large cave that is lit up by fog lights. The cave is a refugee camp and bazaar with merchants selling wares to travelers. Two armed women, Benitez and Scarlotti, ask them why they are here. The fact that it's dusk is enough, but they need to check the boy for the plague. They take a swab and scan Barry for the disease. He's clean. The women welcome them to the Devil's Notch way station. Ana tells them that there were spiders outside. They get worried and Scarlotti runs to tell the leaders.

Ana walks through the bazaar and stops at a bookseller. The merchant, Ruth, remembers her, but thought they'd never meet again. Ana says they are just passing through. She notes that the sickness has arrived. The city of Cincinnati is gone. Ana asks about Bartholomew Cubbins, but Ruth knows her well enough, she would've led with that. Ruth DID find her a copy of a softcore erotica book and Ana is very appreciative. She gives Ruth a bottle of Wild Turkey in return. Ana bets Ruth $5 she WILL find Bartholomew Cubbins.

A man with a pink scorpion tattoo, Clarence, wanders through the bazaar. He sees Ana then hides. He confirms that it's her. He runs off in the other direction.

The cave shakes, but Ruth isn't worried. She doesn't think the giant robots can break mountains. Yet.

Ruth asks how long Ana is staying. She says only overnight, as they are on their way to Kaos City. Ruth says it's just a myth, but Ana says Barry isn't safe anywhere else. She'll to anything to make sure he's safe. Ana pays Ruth some M&M's in order to rent sleeping space.

That night, Clarence rides away from the cave on a bicycle. The cave and vehicles are largely wrecked and the robots stand still once again. He rides through a damaged forest and comes upon a cabin in the woods. Painted on the front door are the words "Property of the Scavengers" and "The Shit Shack!"

The leader of the Scavengers is Kavana, a 50-year-old man. One of his hands has been severed and the stump wrapped in disgusting old cloth. His younger brother Donnie is large, but very developmentally challenged. A henchman, Levi, tells them what he found at the gas station. Clarence returns and Kavana isn't happy with him. Levi tells him that Donnie's books weren't there. Donnie yells about wanting those books.

Clarence tells them he saw "the woman" at the Devil's Notch bazaar. Kavana indicates that she is responsible for his severed hand and he wants revenge. He tells Levi to bathe Donnie. Kavana rewards Clarence with extra portions at mealtimes. He tells everyone to applaud Clarence, and they do.

Day 5: Ana sleeps while Barry plays games. Serena wakes her up and she grabs Serena's wrist. Ana asks what she wants. Serena has seen him with her boy and thinks she's a good mother. Ana lets go. Serena reveals that she is pregnant, but makes sure that no one else notices. She's the first pregnant woman Ana has seen in a long time. Serena asks Ana to help her get out of there. Serena promises it won't get in the way of Barry's safety. She knows how to use a weapon and says she's going for a safe place called Kaos City. Ana says she'll take Serena, she was already going there. Serena thanks her, but they keep it quiet. Serena asks if Ana wants to talk about her missing kid. Ana says no.

Ana grabs Barry and says they have to leave soon. It's not safe anymore because the bad guys are coming. Barry is disappointed, but he's okay with it. He asks about friends wherever they're going and she says that Serena is going to have a baby and that soon it'll be old enough to play with.

In the parking cave, only a single van is undamaged, everything else is destroyed. Ana searches the van and finds the keys. Barry and Serena move to join her and several other people follow: Bam, Anjie, Albert and Jessica. Bam asks where she's going. Ana asks who he is and he says he's in charge. Jessica is sick.

Ana asks if the van belongs to any of them. Since it doesn't, she says it's hers. Anjie asks what if they decide to take it. Ana says they could try. Bam thinks it'll be easy. Ana wagers $5 it won't be. Albert calms everybody down. Ana says they're going somewhere specific and aren't taking any detours. Albert says maybe they're going the same way. Ana says if they stay out of her way, she doesn't care.

Serena says they're headed North, looking for Kaos City. Ana is upset Serena told them. Jessica says Kaos City is a myth, but Serena knows where it is. Ana says it doesn't matter, they're going either way. She tells Barry and Serena to get in the van.

Albert asks if they stay out of the way, can they come? Ana asks about Jessica and Albert says she just has the common cold. She was tested. Ana is skeptical, but she gives Albert the benefit of the doubt. She warns them, though, that she has no problem killing someone with the plague.

Albert asks Bam if he can be an adult. Serena reveals that there are new safe houses, they haven't all been destroyed. They're on the way to Kaos City. Bam caves and says he'll behave. It's better than being left behind. Ana doesn't trust him, but she tells them to come on.

Ana pulls out of the parking lot and heads north. Later, Ana laments that they need to find gas. Bam is upset she didn't plan better, but Anjie stops him from saying something about it. Eventually, the van runs out of gas on the forest highway.

Ana puts the van into park. She says they have to walk from there. Barry points out it'll be dusk soon. Ana points out some rocks for shelter and notes that there aren't robots this far north yet. Bam isn't excited. Serena reassures Ana, but she's not at all concerned about Bam. Serena tells everyone to cover up because the winds will be dangerous. They get ready. In the distance, they can hear the sirens from the giant robots.

They ask if they should stay in the van, but Ana says she and Barry are going for the rocks, they can come or not, she doesn't care. Serena follows. Eventually the others do, too, with Bam being very reluctant.

When they round a corner, several feral dogs appear. Ana gives Barry a code red and he hides inside the shield. The dogs attack. Ana says to shoot them before they get close. She shoots one easily. The others start shooting, too, but they aren't as accurate. Ana takes out a second and third dog. One dog attacks Barry's shield to no avail. Ana shoots it. Another dog attacks Bam and he misses with his gun. Ana kills the dog attacking Bam, but the dog has already ripped his throat out. The remaining dogs run off. Serena goes to comfort Anjie, but Anjie brushes her off.

Day 9: Anjie drives along a small backwoods highway. Barry spots the markings for the safe house and they park outside a year-round Christmas store. Ana checks the place out while Bam and the others wait impatiently. She says it's safe and they go inside. Inside, they eat food as Ana checks her notes on Kaos City. She says the safe houses should have clues for further safe houses and, eventually, Kaos City. She looks around the house for clues.

Jessica is surprised they aren't already on their way to Kaos City. Barry tells her Kaos City is hidden. Serena says she knows the basic area, but she's never been. Albert wonders how they're going to find it. Ana discovers a map hidden in the bathroom medicine cabinet.

Day 12: The group walks down the road. Serena asks Ana what she did before all this. Ana was going to say that she's not allowed to talk about that, but it doesn't matter anymore. Ana just says she was an agent who worked in the crime lab. She was a chemist. Serena was going to be a veterinarian. Ana spent her free time doing things like triathlons and Spartan races. They arrive at the new safe house.

Ana stokes a fire inside a new safe house. Bam and Anjie are in a room. Jessica sleeps on the couch. Albert and Serena warm up near the fire. Barry reads. He asks his mom if he's ever going to have any friends. She says yes, if it's the last thing she does. He asks if he's too old to be reading Dr. Seuss books. She says you're never too old for Dr. Seuss. She tells him if he doesn't go to sleep, Ted Bundy's going to come and get him. Barry tells her he looked up Ted Bundy at the library and he's been dead for a long time. He asks why she always tells him that lie. She says it's because her mom said it to her.

Inside the Shit Shack, Kavana holds court, Donnie nearby. Kavana tells everyone to applaud for Clarence and Tony, today's scouts. He says the world never gave them anything before the Fall and if they want it now, they'll have to take it. He says that Clarence is in change and he and Tony are to go get Ana and her friends.

Day 15: Barry and Serena lead the group, walking down the road. She asks him what his mom was like before everything. He says she was less worried and she laughed more. Serena says that Ana love Barry. He says she tells him all the time. Serena says good, it's important for him to know he's loved. Ana catches up to them and tells Barry to go grab some water. Ana jokes with Serena, but she's bad at it.

Barry trips and drops his Rubik's Cube. Ana runs to help him, but Serena stops her. She says he's okay. Ana allows it, but she's not happy. Barry says he's okay. Ana walks ahead and Serena tells Barry to catch up. Barry reaches to get the Rubik's Cube, but changes his mind and leaves the toy behind. They walk along the trail and come upon a fork. Ana checks her notes and they go deeper into the forest.

Day 16: Clarence and Tony lead several henchmen down the road, including Bushrod and Levi. Bushrod plays with his knife and Levi pushes him, horsing around. The blade flies at Clarence, who catches it bare-handed. He throws the knife back at them and tells them to quiet down. He discovers Barry's Rubik's Cube and tells them they're getting close. He heads out and the Scavengers follow him, including Sammy and Oliver.

Day 17: Ana tucks Barry in and he tells her not to turn all the lights out. He hates the dark. He asks his mom if other people are going to come to this safe house and she says no, because she didn't put the directions to it back.

Ana joins Serena on the couch. Serena says everything must be tough on Barry. Ana says it's tough on everyone. Serena notes that it seems particularly harsh on boys. She asks where the fathers are. Where the good men are.

Ana says there will be again. Serena is going to have a boy, too, and they can remake man in their own image.

Barry's Rubik's Cube lays on the ground with a bloody thumbprint on it. Robot spiders walk down the path and one scans the toy. It finds an exact match with Clarence Highsmith. Other fingerprints on the cube are a genetic match for Ana Guerrera's DNA. This is who the spider was looking for and it and dozens of other spiders follow Ana.

At the safe house, Ana tosses and turns in her sleep. She flashes back to her house before the apocalypse. IN addition to Ana and Barry are teen daughter Sandra and husband Tyrone. Sandra says she can hear them outside. Tyrone says their house is too small, the aliens are only focused on big buildings. The house shakes. One of the giant robot's sledgehammer hands smashes the corner of the house off. They move away from it. Mechanical spiders come in through the hole. One stabs Tyrone's hand. Ana protects Barry as he heads towards the kitchen. The spider kills Tyrone.

Sandra is cornered by two spiders. Another sledgehammer hands smashes into the house. She hears Barry scream. Sandra screams for him. The spiders kill Sandra as the robot continues to destroy the house. Barry screams again and she runs towards him. A spider has him cornered. She gets its attention and smashes it with a cast-iron skillet. She hugs Barry and more spiders come. The run out the back door, spiders following. They jump in a truck and speed away. They drive away as two giant robots destroy their house.

Day 18: Ana and Barry sleep on one couch, Serena on another. A bullhorn outside wakes them up. Clarence and the Scavengers have arrived. Ana tells Barry it's a code red and he activates the shield. Jessica asks if there are shields for the rest of them. Jessica coughs up blood. Ana says get weapons ready, because people are about to die. She gives Serena a revolver. Ana has her own gun at the ready. Ana pockets the map. She says they'll burn the house down, so Ana leads them out the back door.

The second they step outside, a sniper kills Albert. Ana and Jessica hide behind the house. Jessica coughs again, she definitely has the plague. Sammy runs at them with an axe. Ana grabs Jessica and thrusts her towards Sammy, who kills her with the axe. Ana jams her blade into Sammy's skull.

Ana walks around the side of the building and is ambushed by Clarence and Oliver. They tackle her and she loses her blade and gun. Clarence tries to hold her down while Oliver punches at her. She rolls over, tossing Clarence into Oliver. Ana tumbles forward to grab her blade and the map falls out of her pocket. She doesn't notice, as Oliver grabs her ankle. She swings her blade and cuts his hand off.

Ana doesn't see Clarence pick up the map. A gunshot hits Oliver in the desk. Three more Scavengers come running. Ana quickly takes out two of the Scavengers. Clarence realizes he has the map and he runs. The other Scavengers follow him. Ana shoots at them as they leave, but they get away. Serena asks what that was about. Ana says they were testing them, seeing what they were capable of. They'll be back. Ana realizes she doesn't have the map. She looks around for the map, but doesn't find it. Serena asks what's up. Ana says the Scavengers got the map.

Day 20: Serena hugs Barry, who is shaking. She says Ana will be back soon. He asks why she had to go and Serena tells him that its to help find Kaos City. Barry asks why they have to go there. She says because nowhere else is safe. She says that she only kinda knows where it is, but it's hidden. Serena says Ana will be back once she gets the map.

Ana and Anjie walk down the road at night. Ana asks Anjie why she came along. Anjie questions Ana's authority. Later, Ana is checking her backpack when she sees Anjie sneaking up on her. Anjie pulls out a big knife and attacks, but Ana is ready. She grabs Anjie's wrist and sweeps her leg. Ana drives the knife into Anjie's chest. She makes sure that Anjie is dead and drags the body into the woods. Robot spiders arrive and Ana runs.

Later, Ana continues down the road. She comes upon several tents in an empty homeless encampment. She checks them out and they are long abandoned. The sirens for the giant robots go off in the distance. She climbs into one of the tents and zips it shut. In the morning, Ana eats breakfast as she goes over her notes. One of them says to go in at dusk and let the robots do the work.

It's nearly dusk as Ana swiftly walks the road leading to the Shit Shack. Behind her follows a line of mechanical spiders of varying sizes. When she gets too far ahead of them, she slows down so they can catch up. Not close enough to catch her, but close enough to keep pursuing. She leads them to the Shit Shack.

She throws a shirt over the front spider and picks it up. She goes to the front door of the Shit Shack and waits for the robot sirens to start going off. A robot is really close by. She kicks the door open and throws the spider inside. They scramble to fight it.

Ana shoots Clarence and hides behind the door. No one sees her in the chaos. The alarm from the giant robot is too loud. Kavana yells orders and Ana steps into the doorway again. She takes out two more Scavengers and ducks behind the door again. Kavana sees her, though and yells for the Scavengers get her. He needs a gun.

Kavana goes into a back room. Donnie follows him. Ana shoots another Scavenger. Kavana comes back with an AR-15. A giant robot destroys the end of the building away from Kavana. He shoots the robot, but it doesn't do anything. He runs back to the weapons room. Ana runs and trips over the spiders. The remaining Scavengers run away, paying her no mind. A spider crawls onto her, but she wraps it in the shirt and tosses it to the ground. She stomps on the spider, grabs the shirt and runs.

Ana sneaks down the city street. She hears spiders skittering by and ducks into a doorway. She notices it's for a store called "Roth's Book Nook" and she quietly slips inside. She checks things out inside and among the orders saved behind the desk for customers is a copy of Bartholomew Cubbins. She literally hugs the book and puts it in her backpack. She settles in for a nap and falls asleep after looking at the pendant picture of her daughter.

She flashes back to before the apocalypse. She frantically leaves her suburban home as giant robots and robot spiders destroy houses and attack people. She drives away from civilization with Barry strapped into the passenger seat. Later she speeds along a deserted highway. In the dark an alien spacecraft is parked in the middle of the street. She tries to avoid it, but the car goes into a slide and smashes into the craft sideways. Ana is knocked out.

Barry shakes her awake and she says she's okay. He's fine, even though he has a bump on his head. They get out of the car. Ana gets out of the car and climbs into the craft.

Ana climbs back out of the craft and returns to Barry. She hands him the shield device and tells him to put it in his backpack. He checks it out as they walk along.

In the present, Ana wakes up. She double checks to make sure she didn't dream up the Bartholomew Cubbins book.

Ana hides in the forest near the Scavengers' hideout. Tony stands outside smoking. Bushrod comes out and tells Tony to go check the traps. He's reluctant, but it's a direct order. He trudges towards the traps and Bushrod goes back inside. Ana follows Tony.

Once he's far enough away from the Shit Shack, Ana kills Tony. She takes his jacket and heads back to the Shit Shack. She peeks in through the window to get the lay of the land. She moves to a spot where the building is open and she can hear them. Kavana says as soon as Tony gets back, they'll send a group to get Ana and the others. Kavana lights the map on fire. He's sending Bushrod to burn Kaos City to the ground. Then he decides he wants to see it burn. He tells Bushrod to take an advance squad and stake the place out. Kavana sends Bushrod and his supporters out and Ana slips down the road, ahead of them.

Bushrod walks down the road, smoking a cigarette. He is in no hurry. He walks past Ana without knowing it. She quietly rolls into the back of his legs, taking him down. She puts her blade to his throat and asks him if he memorized the map. She threatens to kill him. He caves. She demands to know where Kaos City is. She says if he tells her, she'll let him go. She starts counting down and he says he'll draw her the map. He draws it in the dirt. She stares at it and memorizes it. She cuts off Bushrod's head. She scratches the map out and walks back towards Barry.

Barry and Serena sit huddled on the couch, covered in blankets. Ana returns and everyone is excited to see her. She tells Barry she has a surprise for him and he gets excited. He gives her Bartholomew Cubbins and he's elated that she's finally found it. Barry runs to a bedroom to read the book. A small robot spider hides in his closet. It hides inside his backpack.

Day 21: On the road that night, Ana trails Barry and Serena. She hears a noise behind her and tells them they have company. She tells Barry to get in the shield. Serena says she can't fight. She's getting sick. She asks to get under the shield. Ana says no. Serena starts to freak out and Ana slaps her. She says join the fight or die. Levi and the Scavengers approach. He tells the women to come quietly and they won't get hurt. Ana kills him. The other Scavengers rush them. Ana takes out another one. They shoot back, but Serena kills another. Ana starts to thank her, but Serena shoos again, hitting the last Scavenger, but not killing him. Ana kills him with the blade. Ana thanks Serena, Serena tells her "fuck you."

Barry walks along the road, ahead of Ana and Serena. Serena asks Ana what just happened. She puts a hand on Ana's shoulder, but Ana uses a pressure point to make Serena let go. She tells Serena to never touch her again. Serena says she thought they were friends. Ana doesn't respond.

Day 22: Ana, Barry and Serena walk through a heavily wooded area that doesn't even have paths. Barry spots something and Ana thinks they have arrived. A long wooden fence is covered in dirt and moss. Graffiti reads "Scavengers die here!" Serena thinks its a bad idea to go inside. She and Ana argue until Laith-Ashley and a group of armed transgender men and women surround them. She tells them they are trespassing. Ana says they mean no harm. Laith-Ashley says they'll be the judge of that. Ana, Serena and Barry are taken captive.

Day 23: Ana wakes up in the wellness center, which is filled with cots and mattresses. Most of the residents are transgender, but there are some cis women residents (and even a few cis men). And jumps up when she doesn't instantly know where Barry is. She panics until she sees him playing games with other kids. A sign on the wall reveals that "Kaos City" used to be the Kao Center for Transgender Wellness. Laith-Ashley walks in and apologizes for all the security. She tells Ana to join her for an audience with the council.

In the hospital board room, seven people sit around the table. There are three empty chairs. Laith-Ashley introduces them to the council: Devin, Eli, Jazz, Tyler, Nikita, Alex and Lillian. Tyler chairs the council. She welcomes them to Kaos City. Tyler asks what Ana's purpose is. She says to keep her son safe. Secondarily to keep her friends safe. Tyler asks how Ana found them. She says she followed the messages at the safe houses. Tyler wants to know what Ana wants of them. She says safe haven. Tyler says they are welcome to stay, but Kaos City isn't safer than anywhere else, it's just hidden. Ana says that's better. Tyler isn't sure.

Day 24: Barry finishes reading Bartholomew Cubbins to two young Black girls, Grace and Sophia. He goes to put the book away and one of the mechanical spiders scurries out of his backpack. The kids scatter and Barry alerts the adults. Ana bolts up and asks where it is. Barry points it out. The spider is able to get off a signal before Ana is able to destroy it. Laith-Ashley watches with dismay then leaves the room with a frown.

Day 25: Serena shakes Ana awake, telling her that they're gone. Barry's okay, but the Kaos City people. Less than a dozen people are left at Kaos City. Down from more than 50 the night before. A trans man, Avery, comes to talk to them. He says after the spider appeared, Kaos City was compromised.

Serena screams. The baby is coming. Avery and Ana help Serena walk towards the medical facility. Avery times the contractions and says the baby is coming now. Avery is a doctor. Barry reminds them that it's dusk. The alarms go off. Avery says he has to deliver the baby, and tells Ana to keep them safe. She tells Barry to stay here and if anything comes this way, use the shield. Barry says okay. Ana grabs her blade and Serena's rifle and runs out of the room. Barry tells Serena that if the robots come, she can have the shield. Avery says they won't need it. An explosion is heard outside.

Ana and Laith-Ashley watch a giant robot destroy their buildings. Ana has figured out that they're probably solar-powered and take a large amount to power. They predict that it'll shut down soon and it does. Ana apologizes for leading them to Kaos City.

A bullhorn goes off outside. Kavana and the Scavengers have arrived. They look outside and see nine Scavengers. Ana and the women raise their guns but Kavana says this doesn't have to be a thing. Ana tells them to stop or die. He says he just wants to talk, but they tell him to fuck off.

Kavana says he doesn't care about anyone except Ana. She tells him to come get her, but he wants to parlay. He comes closer to talk and Ana tells Laith-Ashley to shoot all of them if he makes a move. Behind his back, Kavana hides a massive knife. Ana doesn't trust him and she has her blade behind her back.

Kavana asks where her son is and she says he's hiding. He taunts her about her previous threats. She says they're legitimate and she buries her blade in his chest. Kavana stabs her in the side and blood spurts out. Ana pulls out a gun and shoots him in the head. They both fall to the ground, he's dead. She's not.

Avery runs out the front door and chaos erupts. Avery has an AR-15 and unloads on the Scavengers. Ana fires at them. Laith-Ashley and the other women fire, too. The Scavengers aren't ready and they get mowed down. Kavana reaches up to grab Ana again, but Avery shoots him again. Ana thanks Avery and they take her to the infirmary.

A fire is set up inside near the end of the building open from the robot attack. Ana lies on a cot near the fire. Barry sits besides her, crying. She asks how he liked Bartholomew Cubbins. He doesn't answer. She suggests maybe he try Nancy Drew or Roald Dahl next. He doesn't know who they are, but she says he'll find them. He cries that she isn't going to be there to find them for him. She reminds him that she's always been teaching him to take care of himself. She says she left out the part about how she can't do it forever. He asks why not and she says because the world is stupid. She dies.

Day 1: Serena holds the baby. Barry and Avery stand with her. A funeral pyre is set up for Ana. Barry tosses a torch onto the pyre and they watch it burn.

Serena and Barry leave Kaos City, following the road the former Kaos City residents took. Serena says she's going to name the baby Ana. Barry approves. Laith-Ashley asks where they are going. Serena says they're going to catch up with the others. Serena says they will follow in the footsteps of those who strode before them.
