The Mixon family owns a very expensive and unique smart house. A veritable fortress.
Darrell Mixon walks into the front hall and speaks to a panel on the wall labeled "B.R.U.C.E.," an A.I. that runs the smart house. Darrell initiates the wake up protocol, but B.R.U.C.E. is malfunctioning. Ronnie and Sylvia, Darrell's kids, make fun of him for breaking B.R.U.C.E. Darrell says that he'll have to reset it, but B.R.U.C.E. starts working again.
Darrell bumps into J.U.D.Y., a cleaning robot dressed in feminine attire. J.U.D.Y. is somewhat primitive for an A.I. and has to ask Darrell to clarify words like "fritz." Darrell is startled by J.U.D.Y.
Sylvia finishes packing her suitcase. The mother, Ronnie, comes out of her bedroom. She tells J.U.D.Y. that a repairman is coming to fix B.R.U.C.E. Mickey comes out of his room and bangs a drum beat on J.U.D.Y. The robot doesn't understand and stares at him. Mickey says J.U.D.Y. is too dumb to be a repairbot.
Mickey runs into the kitchen, where Ronnie and Sylvia are eating breakfast. Darrell is making himself a plate. Ronnie chastises Mickey for insulting J.U.D.Y. Sylvia says he's going to hurt J.U.D.Y.'s feelings, but Darrell contends the robot doesn't have any feelings. Ronnie explains that some robots these days DO have feelings. Darrell says it costs extra and tells them to hurry up as there is some talk on the news about shutting down travel because of the virus. Ronnie explains that while they are vaccinated against the virus, but they could still be carriers. J.U.D.Y. listens closely and then does the dishes as the family finishes eating.
Mickey finishes packing up while J.U.D.Y. rolls into his room. She scans his face, but misidentifies him as Darrell. Mickey tells his dad that J.U.D.Y. can't tell Black people apart. Darrell says that facial recognition software isn't that great yet, especially with Black people. J.U.D.Y. rolls back into the hallway and comes face-to-face with Sylvia, who calls the robot creepy. She goes into her parents bedroom ans asks her parents where the family is going. Ronnie finishes packing while the two parents explain where they're going, a beach house. Their uncle finally got engaged and everybody is visiting the family to celebrate. Darrell finishes packing his suitcase. Sylvia asks if they'll be safe at the beach house. Darrell says it'll be as safe as being here at home. Ronnie knows that Sylvia is worried about the virus and she calms her daughter down.
Ronnie stands by the door, fully packed and ready to go. Sylvia and Mickey join her. Darrell is having trouble finding something. Mickey asks Ronnie if B.R.U.C.E. is broken. She says yes. He asks if the house is safe. She says it's the best in modern safety. J.U.D.Y. joins them. Sylvia reveals that Mickey is worried that the prized comic book he got for Christmas might get stolen. Ronnie says it's safe. Darrell joins them, saying that the repairman is coming before they get back. J.U.D.Y. stares at them until the door closes behind them.
Day 1: J.U.D.Y. vacuums the house, cleans the windows, takes out the trash. The neighborhood around the house is wealthy, isolated and there's no traffic.
Day 5: J.U.D.Y. vacuums the house and cleans the windows, but there's no trash to take out. B.R.U.C.E. alerts J.U.D.Y. that someone is approaching the house. It's a letter carrier. She opens the door to greet him. She scans him and finds him to be threat level zero. She greets the letter carrier.
Day 10: A phone call comes in, but B.R.U.C.E. glitches. He starts up again and plays a message from Darrell that the family won't be back any time soon because of the virus. Darrell tells them to keep the house safe and protect the home. J.U.D.Y. listens.
Day 15: J.U.D.Y. searches for the house for things to clean, but can't find anything. She asks B.R.U.C.E. to give her more work, but he doesn't have any.
Day 16: J.U.D.Y. again asks B.R.U.C.E. for tasks, but he has no work for her. She asks what the Mixons do when they are finished with work. He says their primary task outside of work is sleep. B.R.U.C.E. starts to tell her they watch TV, but he glitches again. She goes into the living room and turns on the TV, her eyes grow brighter as she watches.
Day 18: J.U.D.Y. watches a right-wing talk show host. The host is fear-mongering about people of color to sell gold. J.U.D.Y. listens. B.R.U.C.E. announces that a visitor's arrival is imminent. J.U.D.Y. opens to door to another letter carrier, a slovenly white mail man. J.U.D.Y. scans him and finds him to be zero threat. He delivers two heavy boxes that J.U.D.Y. tells him to place in the basement. After he leaves, J.U.D.Y. opens one of the boxes and gold bars are inside. She stores the boxes in the back of the basement.
Day 23: J.U.D.Y. watches the shower scene from Psycho. She goes into the kitchen and picks up a knife. She practices a stabbing motion just like Norman Bates.
Day 25: J.U.D.Y. is placing a removable ramp on the stairs to the basement. Someone arrives at the front door. J.U.D.Y. opens the door and scans the Black man standing there. She identifies him as threat level maximum and stabs him to death the way she saw Norman stab Marion in Psycho. She pulls the dead repairman down the ramp and into the basement.
Day 30: J.U.D.Y. takes the remains of the repairman (in heavy-duty trash bags) out to the trash bin. She spots some blood in the driveway and washes it away.
Day 31: J.U.D.Y. watches violent 80s action movies and gets REALLY into them.
Day 32: J.U.D.Y. watches war movies when the slovenly white mail man arrives. He gives her a long, flat box. Later, J.U.D.Y. has opened the box in the back yard and she fires an assault rifle at the trees in the back yard, learning how to use it.
Day 37: Again, J.U.D.Y. is watching right-wing television. The host is talking about how protecting one's home against invaders is a patriotic duty.
Day 41: The Mixons return home. Everyone gets out of the car and rolls their luggage towards the front door. They're glad to finally get home and Mickey can't wait to get back to his comic book.
The door opens and J.U.D.Y. stands there with the assault rifle. She scans Darrell, but doesn't recognize him. She identifies them as a threat and guns the family down as "intruders."
