An older station wagon pulls into the parking lot of a big box store and parks near a van for Tallahassee Community College. Stanley Jiggs cleans the van's windshield. Christian gets out of the car and waits for his parents, Millie and Sanford, before approaching the van. Millie asks if Stanley is the chaperone. He says he's an adviser, the students are adults and they don't need a chaperone. Millie tells him that Christian definitely needs a chaperone because he gives in to temptation when alone. She says if anything happens to Christian, there will be a special punishment for Stanley.
After Christian's parents leave, Stanley tells Cristian and the other students to hurry up. Christian is the last in the van. He waves to the other students. Kevin waves back. Bente smiles. Donita smiles. Bianca greets him casually. Stanley pulls out of the parking lot and onto Capitol Circle.
Stanley reads a map while driving. Bianca questions him and he reveals he hasn't been camping in 20 years. The camping gear they are using was paid for by the school. Stanley runs the gym, he's not a teacher. He thinks the Environmental Clean-Up Club is hippie stuff, he's only filling in for the club's advisor, who is sick.
Christian sneaks peeks at Bente and she catches him. He questions her name and she returns the favor. Kevin makes fun of Christian and Christian calls him out for it. Donita shuts Kevin up. Stanley makes a joke about underage girls and gets called out for it. Donita says they should play a game and they play a word association game. Christian takes some time to figure it out and Kevin starts calling him speed bump, because he slows the game down.
They arrive at the campground and exit the van to their walk-on songs. Stanley hands a tent to Christian and they carry the gear to their camping spot. They continue to play the word association game, and Kevin continues to slow things down.
Later, the tents are set up and the gear unpacked. Stanley says they have to talk about why they came on the trip in order for it to meet educational requirements. The students are reluctant, but Stanley threatens them that they'll have to go home if they don't do it. Kevin came for the free food. Bente came because she supports saving the environment, even if she doesn't like spending time in nature, but also because she gets extra credit for Earth Science class. Donita is majoring in botany. Christian's parents made him come so he could learn to appreciate God's gift of nature. Bianca says she's here for extra credit, but she's not convincing.
Done with that, Stanley starts cooking. He tells them to take a hike and the food will be ready when they get back. Kevin wants to stay behind to get the first food off the grill, but Stanley says no one eats until all the food is done. Kevin decides to go on the hike. They keep playing the word association game. Stanley pulls out a small portable TV and puts on the Kentucky game.
Bente carries the flashlight and leads the way. Bianca flirts with Christian and gets him to let her copy his algebra homework. Then she catches up to Bente and they decide to send Christian on a snipe hunt.
Everyone returns to camp except Christian. Stanley gets mad at them and grabs his flashlight and goes to find him.
Christian crawls through the forest, looking for a snipe. Something bites his ankle and he limps back to the camp. He lies and tells them he twisted his ankle. Kevin makes fun of him. He tells them he almost caught a snipe and they laugh at him.
Stanley is lost in the forest. He tries the map and decides to head back to camp.
Donita breaks out the s'mores and everyone is excited. Kevin asks someone to tell a ghost story. The others don't want that, they want a funny story. Christian says he has a funny story called "The Purple Flower."
Stanley hears something in the bushes, but his flashlight reveals nothing. A vine wraps around his ankle and trips him. He breaks the ankle as he falls. Whatever is in the bushes rushes at him.
Donita asks what a purple flower is. The students wonder about Stanley, but he's supposed to be the adult, so they stay put.
A huge purple flower eats Stanley's head.
Christian tells the story, which ends with a joke. Everybody hates it. Kevin said he heard the story was true, but Christian got the ending wrong.
Stanley's headless body lays in the forest.
Kevin tells his version of the story, saying it happened in these woods. But it ended with the kid in the story having his head eaten by a purple flower. Donita says that's stupid. A purple flower eats Kevin's head and everybody else runs.
