A V-22 Osprey piloted by a Black woman named Johnson hovers above Jackson Hospital. The building is damaged and she tells Sgt. Cole that it's not possible to land on the roof of the hospital, as expected. Cole tells Johnson to land in the parking lot instead. The lot is overgrown and scattered with litter, like it hasn't been used recently.

The rest of the Osprey is fulled with further soldiers: Dixon, McEwan, Hall, Jovanofsky, Williams and White.

Dixon asks why they are stopping at the hospital. He thinks they're wasting their time because they haven't seen of of those "things" since they left the Air Force base at Tyndall. Cole said they're stopping because he said so.

McEwan says she wants some payback she wants to deliver. She wants to shoot whoever burned a red hand print onto her face. Cole says she's killed a TON of those "things" and doesn't need anymore payback.

The Osprey lands and they file out. Cole tells them to sweep the area and look out for those "things."

Ten minutes later, the sweep is over and no one has found anything. Hall says their next stop will probably have to be Tallahassee. Jovanofski wants to see Doak Campbell Stadium, which he heard about as a high school football player. Dixon visited as a recruit and says it IS sweet.

Cole gets closer to the entrance to the hospital and notices something moving inside. He says they're going back to Panama City tonight and Tallahassee in the morning.

Williams is the first to spot the movement at the front entrance to the hospital. It's Taylor another soldier that they don't know. McEwan wants to shoot him, but Cole tells her to stand down.

Taylor can't believe he's seeing other human beings. He's a bit wary of them until he sees Cole. He salutes and Cole asks who he is. Taylor says he's been wandering around looking for anyone since "it happened." He says he's killed quite a few of the "things" before he ran out of ammo. Then he says there are worse things out there than the "dead things" (zombies). Cole is shaken for the first time.

Johnson hurries Cole, saying they should leave quickly. Cole gives the order for everyone to get on board the Osprey. Taylor asks for permission to fly the Osprey. Taylor is a helicopter pilot. Cole agrees, excited to have a back-up pilot.

Taylor flies the Osprey, Cole is the co-pilot. Taylor describes the other things he's seen, calling them "blights." The soldiers make fun of the name, but Taylor isn't laughing. Cole shuts the soldiers up. Johnson takes notes about what Taylor is saying. Taylor describes the blights and the other soldiers call bullshit. He says that he only escaped the first blight he saw because he tripped and fell. The creature sent out some kind of hot energy wave that has a stinky smell and was able to cut a car in half. The soldiers are starting to believe Taylor.

Taylor says he saw more than one of the blights, he's seen three. He's hidden from them since. He notes that the blights seem to be attracted to military bases for some reason. Dixon brags that he wants to kill one of the blights and hopes they are at Tyndall when they get back. Taylor doesn't think it's funny, but the others are laughing. White thinks the blights are at military bases because the government made them. He's laughed at even harder than Taylor was. He continues with the conspiracy theories, but no one else is buying it. Cole, in fact, takes offense at White's claim that the government is in on it. White backs down.

Cole tells everyone to quiet down and tells Taylor to land the Osprey on the helipad at Tyndall. As Taylor lands the helicopter, they all see that buildings are broken and battered and dead bodies lay everywhere. White doesn't want to land, but Cole orders it. Taylor complies. They offload from the Osprey, weapons ready.

Cole tells them to see if anyone is alive. They fan out to search. Dixon takes point heading into the barracks. Immediately someone fires at him. He ducks and isn't hit. Williams and Hall pull him to safety while the others fire at the building. Pritsky appears and tells them to hold their fire. Pritsky knows them and they do. They approach and he's scared. He's seen a blight. The soldiers are angry at him for shooting at them, but he's much more focused on the blight that did all the destruction and death. Pritsky explains that the blight was not only agile, but it had touch enough skin to resist bullets. Pritsky says that everyone else from the base is dead. Not only that, the blights eat the dead things. It doesn't make a lot of sense because the blights don't have mouths, but Pritsky assures them that's what he saw.

The blight attacks. Pritsky and Taylor recognize the sound of the attack and drop to the ground. Cole's squad catches on quickly and follows suit. Cole takes charge and gets them into a defensive formation. They are ready. The barracks were hit by the latest attack from the blight, which they still haven't seen. The building starts to crumble.

Then the blight comes from the forest. It doesn't quite fly, but it leaps long distances while stopping their descent with their bat-like wings. It leaps closer to them, 10 feet at a time. It blasts it's energy attack against them and they all drop to the ground again. Cole tells them to open fire on the blight. They do, hitting it many times. Without doing any damage. The monster doesn't even flinch. Another energy blast, another crumbling building.

Cole tells them to save their ammo. Taylor says they need to leave right away. Cole doesn't like running and wants to find a way to kill the blight. Cole tells White to get a grenade launcher from the Osprey, but he says no. Cole orders him to do it and he reluctantly heads for the helicopter.

He stays gone for a long time. Cole yells for him and the blight notices. White sticks his head out of the Osprey, holding the grenade launcher. He doesn't know how to use it, so he tosses it in Cole's direction. Johnson is closer and catches it.

The blight emits another energy blast, it decapitates Johnson. The blight leaps closer again and is now only 15 feet away. Hall and Williams fire on the blight to no effect.

McEwan grabs the grenade launcher and fires both rounds. The first hits the blight's left wing and destroys it. The blight screams and the sound hurts the soldiers. Most fall to the ground. Those closest to the blight bleed from their ears. It turns and bounds away, screaming as it goes.

Cole stands up, pulls out his pistol and executes White. Nobody says anything. Cole declares that Taylor is the squad's new pilot and tells Taylor to get them to Tallahassee ASAP. They start to load into the Osprey.
